
Required yearly Volunteer/CEU hours:
- INTERN’S – 40/8 GRADUATION DATE UNTIL NEXT MAY 2026 (1 YR TO COMPLETE) TO RECEIVE GREEN BADGE
- ACTIVE MEMBERS LESS THAN 10 YEARS – 25/8 November 1st – October 31st
- ACTIVE MEMBERS MORE THAN 10 YEARS – COMBINE 15 VOLUNTEER HOURS WITH CEU HOURS November 1st – October 31st
How to achieve volunteer hours?
Hours of service – Can be obtained by volunteering at MG events and/or working in various MG gardens, projects, serving on the board, committee and different positions (attachment 1).
Members may record up to 5 service hours annually on activities that are non-MGWC approved projects. Request for service hours in excess of the 5 non-MGWC approved project hours must be presented to the board for approval on a case-by-case basis.
How to achieve CEU’s (Continuing Education Units)?

How to log hour and profile:
Log into temg.tennessee.edu and set up your login and password. Complete your profile with name, address, gender, race, age, education, county and phone number. Please add your picture.
Check box for “Would you like your name and contact information to be viewed by other Master Gardens in our Roster?
Once you have completed your profile you will be added to the County Roster.
Become familiar with temg.tennessee.edu:

Yearly must do’s: pay membership, submit volunteer agreement online and submitting all paperwork required by the state and local extension of the TEMG Program, meeting annual certification requirements and recording your volunteer hours and CEU’s online TEMG database located at temg.tennessee.edu.

How to get CEU credit
- Attend Master Gardener monthly meetings when we have a speaker for 1 CEU, these meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month.
- Attending learning garden topic learning lectures. Lucas will offer learning opportunities. Also, the Nashville Lawn and Garden show offers learning opportunities…
- Watch Volunteer Gardener episodes (1/2 CEU) or any number of university produced videos on horticultural topics…
- Watch Douglas Tallamy’s, Bringing Nature Home, P. Allen Smith, Live Green Tennessee all with horticultural topics…

MGWC Annual Service Awards
The following awards are presented at the December membership meeting:
- President’s Award
The current President chooses one Certified Master Gardener who he/she feels has made a significant contribution to the MGWC organization over the current year. The recipient receives a gift card, a certificate and their name is added to the President’s Award plaque kept in the Master Gardener building in Fiddlers Grove.
- Pam Pulley Award
The Pam Pulley Award is given to the MGWC member who performed the most Volunteer Hours in the current calendar year. Hours must be posted in the TEMG database to be considered. The recipient receives a gift card, a certificate and their name is added to the Pam Pulley plaque kept in the Master Gardener building in Fiddlers Grove.
- Leaf Club
Leaf Club is an annual recognition of members who performed Volunteer hours of 100, 200 and 300 hours in a twelve month period from November 1st through October 31st. Recipients receive a leaf pin and a certificate. Hours must be posted in the TEMG database to be considered.
Example: For the Leaf Pins awarded at the December 2025 membership meeting, volunteer hours posted for the period beginning November 1, 2024 through October 31, 2025 are counted.
On or after November 1, the Certification Officer runs a report from the TEMG database of volunteer hours posted by MGWC members for service awards.
