The 2015 Wilson County Master Gardener Spring Festival & Plant Sale is Saturday, May 9 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The event takes place at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center in Lebanon. Admission & parking are free. And don’t forget Mom! Mother’s Day is that Sunday (May 10) so bring mom out for a day of flowers, food, fun and fresh air on Saturday, May 9th.
Our keynote Speaker is Jason Reeves. Jason is Ornamental Horticulture Research Associate at UT’s West Tennessee Research and Education Center in Jackson. He creates the various seasonal horticultural displays, conducts research on herbaceous and woody ornamentals, assists with the center’s annual field day, Summer Celebration, and supports other educational programs. In addition, Jason serves as a contributing editor to Fine Gardening magazine.
Jason will be speaking from 11:00 to 12 Noon on the following topic:
Great Garden Plants – This talk focuses on dependable new and older underutilized good performers. Covering annuals, perennial, tropicals, trees and shrubs that will be in the garden for years to come. Many new to the market in the last 5 or 10 years. Plants like Clematis ‘Roogucchi’, Log Fern, ‘Iron Butterfly’ iron weed, Jasmine ‘Fiona Sunrise’, Wood spurge, Pulmonaria ‘Diana Clare’, ‘Summer Chocolate’ mimosa tree, ‘Welch’s Pink’ American beautyberry ‘Appalachian Red’ redbud, ‘Gyokuryu’ Japanese cedar, Korean sweetheart tree, Hydrangea paniculata ‘Baby Lace’, Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Munchkin’ & ‘Ruby Slippers’ and ‘Cascade Falls’ weeping bald cypress. It also covers annuals as well.
