Photos – 2014 October Meeting w/ Patti & Gary Stein – 7 October 2014

The following photos were made during the Wilson County Master Gardener Association meeting on Tuesday, 7 October 2014. Our guest speakers were our very own Patti and Gary Stein and their program was on Bonsai. The Steins have been creating bonsai for 18 years, and were gracious enough to demonstrate their art and craft for us.

Patti and Gary started with a Dwarf Mugo Pine, generously donated by Needham’s Nursery in Mount Juliet, Tennessee. After an hour of snipping and ripping and cutting and sawing, all the while answering questions from the audience, Gary had whittled the bushy lush shrub into the miniature tree you see below. Tickets were sold for $1 each (or 6 for $5) at the door, and at the end of the night the winning ticket holder took home the beautiful bonsai creation. Greg Tomerlin had the winning ticket thanks to Marilyn Burchett, who left just a few minutes before the drawing.

Thank you Patti and Gary for the fun, informative demonstration, and thank you Tom Needham and Needham’s Nursery for the beautiful plant.
