Helm (Illustrator)– Note: Good L1 reference book, beginner identification [-flo]– Note: Very basic dendrology/identification booklet. It is small enough to take in your pocket or backpack while hiking. Does not give detailed information once it helps you identify the tree. [-flo]

- Identifying Trees: An All-Season Guide to Eastern North America by Michael D. Williams– Note: Good L1 reference book, beginner identification [-flo]– Note: This is written by the same author that wrote the UT Extension publication – PB 1756. This book has a tree per page with photos of tree and tree parts for identification. The facing page has the tree description. [-flo]
